These are easy link building tactics that most small businesses can replicate with only a small investment in time and money. Here’s the deal, most businesses are already doing 80% of what they need to do to build links. Most just aren’t able to recognize when a link opportunity exists, or are too busy running other aspects of their business that it just doesn’t occur to them when the opportunity does arise.
I help companies put processes in place to capitalize on their current activities. And I hope this list will help you.
Donate to Local Charities
Do you sponsor events at the local YMCA, participate in food drives, or do anything else that benefits your community? Chances are you do. And the chances are pretty high that you can also get a link out of doing good. Don’t feel guilty asking for a link, it’s a win-win. And who can’t get behind that?
Sponsor Local Sports Teams
Sponsoring youth sports teams can be a terrific way to give back to the community, build goodwill, and acquire a link in the process. I’m not suggesting you sponsor a youth sports team just for a link, but if you’re already doing this, asking their webmaster to link to sponsors just requires a simple email.
Get Links from Business Partners
Think of all the other businesses you do business with! There are likely quite a few. And many of those will be willing to link to you. Offer to provide a testimonial or write an article on their blog. Most business owners have large networks which can be easily leveraged for link building.
Join Local Business Organizations
Joining your local chamber of commerce, Rotary club, or other business group can be a terrific way to acquire new leads, network and get some links in the process. You should encourage members to link to each other’s websites whenever it makes sense.
Speaking Engagements
Do you ever speak at your alma mater? If so, ask for a link from their website. Ninety-nine percent of the time, they will already have something up on their website announcing your speaking engagement. When you make your arrangement to speak, let them know up front that you would appreciate a link to your website, so attendees can learn more about you.
